Bowel Habits Newborn baby's bowel habits are quite variable. Breast fed babies may have as many as 6-10 stools a day. Many babies may strain and grunt even with soft stools, which is normal. Crying Newborn babies do not cry because they are spoiled. Usually something is going on such as the baby being hungry, too full, cold, hot, wet, or soiled. All babies need and desire a lot of love and attention and they have a right to expect that from you as the mother and/or the father. Diaper Care Diaper rashes usually can be avoided by careful cleaning following a soiled or wet diaper. Using either water or diaper wipes are fine for cleaning. If a mild redness develops, use A&D Ointment or a similar product. Pacifiers Pacifiers are NOT required but may serve a useful purpose for the baby and parents alike. If you choose to use a pacifier, NEVER tie it around a baby's neck. It is recommended your child be weaned from the pacifier by age 12-15 months. SAMA - The Right Choice in HealthCare |
